Nightcrawler, the of the ROMhacking.net website that is home to fan-made rom translations, patches, hacks, tools, and documentation, announced the site is closing. It was founded in 2004, following the launch and demise of a previous site called The Repository (ROMhacking.com).

People will still be able to access existing tools and rom patches for homebrew games, hacks, and fan translations for the time being. Backups of those and the site database are also at Internet Archive. People can also still visit and read for the time being, and the forums are active. However, only news submissions will be accepted.

In the announcement, Nightcrawler noted a desire to close at the end of 2023 and considered handing it over to other individuals. The statement claimed those who would have taken over would have cut the out and share their personal information. It is then that the decision to close the site and cut out social media and Discord.

ROMhacking.net was known for being a home for documentation, utilities, fonts, an online patcher and hasher, and of course the ROM patches for homebrew and translation updates. For example, the last two fan translations shared on July 31, 2024 were an English patch for the Game Boy title From TV Animation One Piece: Yume no Luffy Kaizokudan Tanjou by Parmentation and an English patch for the PC98 game Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes by NLeseul.

It is unknown how long files will remain posted on ROMhacking.net proper.

Fallout London Mod Launch

Team Folon's Fallout: London mod officially launched, providing an fan-made new setting for Fallout 4 players. This DLC-sized mod transports players from the American wastelands to the post-apocalyptic streets of London, complete with new factions, storylines, NPCs, weapons, and creatures. It is directly available via GOG, in addition to its official site.

Set in the year 2237, the Fallout 4 Fallout: London mod places players in a world distinct from previous games. Notably, it does not include some series staples such as Super Mutants, Centaurs, or Vault-Tec. Instead, it introduces new British-themed factions and a unique version of a vault that differs from the traditional Vault-Tec shelters. The mod features a condensed map focusing on central London boroughs. The mod does not feature a voiced protagonist, following from internal polls and community discussions.

You can view the official launch trailer below, which highlights the new characters, enemies, factions, and locations.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rahBCfRdVac

The developers emphasized that there will be fewer guns in the game, influenced by the historical context of the Fallout universe rather than real-world gun laws. This setting encourages the use of melee weapons and scrapped-together firearms, which is designed to add to the distinctive British atmosphere of the mod.

Fallout 4 is now available for the Xbox Series X, PS5, and Windows PC. Fallout: London requires Fallout 4 and all its DLC to run. The mod is available exclusively on PC and can be ed from GOG or the official site.

Nier Automata Church

The NieR fan community has been in an uproar over the last several days, following the saga of a "secret church" area supposedly discovered five years after the game's release. Now the secret of the NieR Automata church has been revealed. As it turns out, it's neither an elaborate hoax, nor a bit of viral marketing for something new to do with NieR. Rather, it's a bit of both. According to its creators, the whole event was a complex, engrossing stunt designed to show off a powerful new set of modding tools.

You can read more about the beginnings of the stunt in this post. But to summarize, an anonymous player going by "sadfutago" began posting videos and screens a never-before-seen church area supposedly found in NieR Automata's Copied City location. Many were left wondering whether the thing was a hoax or actual, newly-discovered content in the game. The case for it being "legitimate" was bolstered by the fact that at the time, NieR Automata modding tools and techniques were widely considered incapable of fashioning entirely new areas as demonstrated in the videos and screenshots posted. Combined with cryptic references to the rest of the NieR franchise, some suggested it was a viral marketing trick to promote the Switch port of Automata, or even a new NieR game.

Things reached a fever pitch yesterday and today, as more and more elaborate screens and videos from the secret NieR Automata church were shown, referencing titles like Drakengard 3 and showing off assets seemingly imported from that game into NieR Automata's engine. By then some, including veteran modder and "Final Secret" discoverer Lance McDonald, had concluded that this indeed was evidence of a "bleeding-edge" modding project rather than anything official. But without definite confirmation, speculation continued.

The climactic moment came when sadfutago updated their Reddit profile with a link to a Twitch stream, as well as some broken Japanese promising that the stunt was "not an ARG (Alternate Reality Game)" and "not official". Then they went live, broadcasting themselves playing through a lengthy, newly-constructed gameplay sequence, created with a new set of modding tools. The creators of the NieR Automata secret church were s DevolasRevenge, Woeful_Wolf, and RaiderB. The team thanked the community, and apologized for "misleading everyone". According to them, they were going for "a cut content/secret, not ARG" in their construction of the stunt.

NieR Automata Secret Church

The NieR Automata church creators also promised that they would make the tools open-source, so the wider modding community can benefit from a set of tools capable of doing things previously available only to NieR Automata's developers.

In the end, while the saga of the secret church turned out not to be related to anything "official", it did inaugurate a new era in NieR Automata modding, and provided some excitement around a beloved game.

NieR Automata is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch port is due out on October 6, 2022. Those who might want to play content created with the new tools will need the PC version of the game.

Fisher 6n225x Price Xbox Controller Mod Works With Elden Ring https://siliconera.sitesdebloques.org/fisher-price-xbox-controller-mod-works-with-elden-ring/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=fisher-price-xbox-controller-mod-works-with-elden-ring https://siliconera.sitesdebloques.org/fisher-price-xbox-controller-mod-works-with-elden-ring/#respond <![CDATA[Josh Tolentino]]> Mon, 02 May 2022 16:00:17 +0000 <![CDATA[News]]> <![CDATA[Bandai Namco]]> <![CDATA[Elden Ring]]> <![CDATA[Europe]]> <![CDATA[Fisher-Price]]> <![CDATA[Japan]]> <![CDATA[Mod]]> <![CDATA[North America]]> https://siliconera.sitesdebloques.org/?p=925894 <![CDATA[

Fisher Price Xbox Controller

It's no surprise that toy maker Fisher-Price, long known for "baby's first" toys designed for young children, has a number of items patterned after video game paraphernalia. The actual surprise is that some of those products can be made to play actual video games. Twitch streamer Dylan Beck (known as "Rudeism") modified a Fisher-Price gamepad into a functional Xbox controller, using it to play Elden Ring on a PC.

Rudeism was inspired by a joke from tipster Wario64 highlighting a deal for the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Game & Learn Controller. Wario64 remarked that the toy, which does not contain any actual game-related functionality out of the box, was "perfect for Elden Ring."

https://twitter.com/Wario64/status/1514958006940692480

Rudeism took this as a challenge. Over the course of two weeks, he bought and modified the Fisher-Price toy into a functional Xbox controller. It uses a clone of an Arduino Pro Microcontroller, with inputs from each of the toy's buttons hooked up to switches. The toy's "joystick" was replaced with an actual two-axis joystick, as well. The buttons are mapped to something approximating the actual inputs available on a standard Xbox controller, though the toy's differences necessitated some compromises. For example, since the toy doesn't have a second analog stick, the music/numbers toggle switch changes the functionality of the existing joystick's input. The toggle also controls access to the Start, Select, and Guide buttons.

The Fisher-Price Xbox Controller also retains the original toy's gimmicks, including the playing of sounds, lights and music. It takes power from a cable, since Rudeism had to remove the original's battery mounts to make space for the microcontroller.

Check out Rudeism demonstrating the completed project on Elden Ring below.

Rudeism is no stranger to gaming stunts and unusual control schemes. His Youtube and Twitch channels feature feats like using a single-button controller to beat Dark Souls III, and rigging up a motion controlled lightsaber to beat Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Rudeism said he plans to use the Fisher Price Xbox controller to play some Elden Ring eventually, as well.

elden ring vr

A PC mod to allow you to play Elden Ring in VR is on its way, courtesy of Luke Ross. Ross previously released VR mods for Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as Cyberpunk 2077. He has released a video on his YouTube channel showing off what the mod will look like when it is finished. [Thanks, PC Gamer!]

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-h_f-ZAhO4

This mod will change the perspective. Once applied, someone will be able to see through the eyes of a Tarnished. The original third-person point of view will appear too. However, Ross told PC Gamer that isn’t recommended in VR, due to the distance between a player’s point of view and their avatar.

As much of Elden Ring’s combat relies on dodging and rolling, the VR will not flip every single time. According to Ross, the camera will follow the character’s head, but will remain oriented according to your head in real life. This means that the world will not spin around you every time you perform the action in-game.

The Elden Ring VR mod is in development. Ross expects to release a build of it by the end of April 2022. However, it will not be fully finished at that point. Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The game has sold over 12 million units worldwide as of March 2022.

Everything changes when you approach a game from a new way. With SMILE96’s hack, you don’t have to think outside the box to tackle Super Metroid from a new angle. The modder has been working on a Super Metroid rotation hack since 2014, and a release of it that can actually be beaten is now available.

With SMILE96’s Super Metroid hack, the entire game is rotated 90º. Every room is rotated, which took more work than someone would think. The modder had to alter the level design a bit, to make it possible to get through some areas with wall-jumps, altering the landscape and switching block types to ensure people would be able to get around. Underwater physics were modified as well. However, enemy positions and liquid locations were not, to increase the challenge. On the plus side, shot gates are gone, which should help players' progress.

SMILE96 wasn’t alone in this endeavor. A fellow creator called Scyzer made a room rotating tool and horizontal zebetite, Mon732 put together a Wrecked Ship rotated tileset, JAM patched a vertical door issue, and there were plenty of beta testers.

The Super Metroid hack is still in the beta phase. However, it is now a public release and SMILE96 says it is possible to beat the game in its current state. The ips patch that will change the game can be found at the Metroid Construction forums and applied with Lunar IPS.

Grand Theft Auto V doesn’t officially mods, but that doesn’t keep people from finding a way to change up the game. RX1StrideR has created a Sword Art Online Sinon character skin for the game. When applied, players will look like one of the series’ most iconic heroines.

To install the Sinon mod in Grand Theft Auto V, people must first install the scripts for the Iron Man character mod. It’s a rather complicated process, but fortunately there is a video online from GTA X Scripting that walks people through the installation. After the script is installed, as shown in the video below, replace the Iron Man armor skin with the Sinon model created by RX1StrideR.

Grand Theft Auto V is immediately available for Windows PCs.

lopunny starbound

Starbound already has a bit of a Pokemon element to the game, what with capture pods that can be created and used to capture monsters roaming around planets. (Also each playable character starts out adventures with a pet now.) But with the help of Starbound mods from Ochiru Yuki, people can take that a step further by heading out into space as one of the more humanoid Pokemon.

There are two Starbound mods that add Pokemon species as playable races. The first was the Lopunny mod that added the characters to the game. People who install this 1.3MB file, which is up-to-date and compatible with Pleased Giraffe, the latest version of the game, will also find Lopunny characters get a custom food, Oran Berries, a recipe for Oran Berry Juice, an Ice Punch ability, an Item Finder matter manipulator, and original codex content. There’s also a transparent clothes option, in the event you want it to look more like the original Pokemon.

lucario starbound

The other Pokemon Starbound mod for people in search of new playable characters adds a Lucario as a possible race. Also compatible with Pleased Giraffe, the Lucario is slightly different than the Lopunny as it can have hair. It also comes with an Aura Sphere ability, Pecha and Chesto berries and recipes, Dan’s gift box as a crafting station, and recipes for weapons like Trainer’s Sword, Materia Blade, and Nights End. It is a 1.5MB .

To install the Pokemon race Starbound mods, you’ll first need a copy of the Windows and Mac PC game. Then, you’ll need to the files above and drag and drop the content within to the mods folder. This can be found by opening explorer and navigating through the Program Files, Steam, SteamApps, Common, Starbound, and giraffe_storage folders to find “mods.” To uninstall, go the the same place and delete the folders. Be aware that if deleted, those characters won’t function in-game any longer.

Now that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has mod , people are able to adjust the way the game looks and plays. The mission of one creator has been to make the RPG a little more anime. Devilex94’s Eyes from Naruto Anime for Witchers, well, alters Geralt’s eyes so they resemble those of various heroes from Naruto.

This The Witcher 3 Naruto mod has been broken up into five parts, with one set of kekkei genkai eyes in each file. The first four added were Kakashi’s Sharingan, Sasuke’s Sharigan, a Rinnegan, and Kyuubi eyes. A fifth set containing Itachi’s Sharingan was added on September 4. In a post on September 10, Devilex94 confirmed that he is working on a Madara’s Sharingan set as well.

Unfortunately, this is just a visual mod. People who one of these files for The Witcher 3 will only be able to adjust Geralt’s appearance in the game. They won’t be able to see Geralt use Itachi’s Tsukuyomi.

Caution: this is a report on a mod that has slight connections to a Metal Gear Solid V: Spoiler. The spoiler will not be revealed or discussed, but keep in mind that it addresses it.

Quiet is one of the companion characters for Venom Snake in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. There is a point in the game where Quiet is unavailable to be selected as a buddy. However, a mod shared by WASDREF makes it possible to bring her along in the Windows PC version of the game, even when it shouldn’t be possible.

The Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain mod is 52.2MB in size, and WASDREF recommends making a backup of your save file before using it. After Mission 43 is completed, a player can take the Data1.DATA file from the .zip file and drag and drop it into C:/Program Files/Steam/Steammapps/Common/MGS_TPP/Master to install it in the game. (Note: The location of your Steam folder may be different than mine. Wherever you installed Steam is where you want to go.)

Once installed, load Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Quiet will be available as a buddy for Venom Snake.

Last time we talked about Starbound, we went over the lengths two people went to in order to put Mega Man into the game. This time, we get to see people dress like iconic Super Smash Bros. characters as they explore the universe. Lends a whole new meaning to “Subspace Emissary,” doesn’t it?

The Super Smash Bros. Starbound mod was made by SomeRandomPerson and consists of a growing library of craftable costumes. Once someone makes a Yarn Spinner station in the game out of wood, they can create attire that makes their characters look like one of nine characters from Nintendo’s series. Updates are planned, but at the moment Ike, Link, Little Mac, Mega Man, Rosalina, Roy, Shulk, Solid Snake, and the Wii Fit Trainer are in the pack. These costumes will also appear in both offline and online adventures.

Installing the Super Smash Bros costumes in Starbound is simple. Open up explorer and go through the Program Files, Steam, SteamApps, Common, Starbound, and giraffe_storage folders to get to the mods folder. Drag and drop everything in the mod’s zip file into there and you’re set.

Let’s hope this Starbound mod project continues to go well. It’d be great to see the whole Super Smash Bros. cast.

It’s been seven year since Crash Bandicoot has received a proper game. Perhaps its time for him to appear in somebody else’s. For example, maybe aiding the Dragonborn will do him some good. It’s worth a try with a Crash Bandicoot Follower or armor mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

These Skyrim mod is created by manuelx98 and either allows a player to look like Crash or add him as a potential follower for any player who grabs it from the Steam Workshop. No additional mods are needed for either package. Once the Crash Bandicoot Follower mod is added, a player needs only visit Dragonsreach’s Jarl and find Crash waiting nearby. If you go with Crash Bandicoot armor, you’ll find it in the Daedric section.

starbound mega man mod Have you ever played Starbound? It's an Early Access PC game along the lines of Terraria and Minecraft. Players create a custom avatar, go through some introductory steps to repair a spaceship, then have a whole universe to explore alone or with friends. Of course, being in a beta form means that not everything is quite there yet, but people are picking up the slack with mods. Today will be what I hope is the first of many highlights of cool cross-overs within the game, as we look at Crystan and Dragonith's Mega Man X Starbound creation.

You know, give you a Blue Bomber fix while you're waiting for Mighty No. 9 and that Mega Man Legacy Collection.

The Mega Man X Starbound mod is a salute to the Mega Man X, Z, and ZX games, and it's more than just cosmetic. Yes, you will get to look like all of the iconic characters, thanks to new armor and weapons options, but it's about more than that. You have to earn and make these items first. That means getting the Construction and Bio-Metal Capsules, two new crafting stations. You use the former to create items that wil let you spawn bosses like Zero, Shadow, and Model ZX. Defeat them, and you'll get blueprints to make their unique armor in the Construction Capsule.

starbound mega man mech But looking the part isn't enough in the Mega Man X Starbound mod. You also need to have things around you on your planet that set the mood. There's a capsule bed to rest in, and players can access tech that gives them Eagle Ride Amor and X4 Ride Chasers to run around in.

There are a few things to note with Starbound mods. With ones like this, whatever character you use with it will become bound to that mod. If you remove it, you can't use that character unless you add it back in. Since the game is in Early Access, that could mean you'll have to wait to use your "Mega Man" until the mod creators get it working with the next update. However, Mega Man X Starbound is compatible with Spirited Giraffe, the current version of the game, and installing and uninstalling a mod is as simple as dragging and dropping it in and out of a folder. Open Explorer on your PC and dig deep through Program Files, Steam, SteamApps, Common, Starbound, and giraffe_storage to find the mods folder. Drag and drop the contents of the zip file into mods and you're done.

Which is good, since you'd also need to do that when updates are released for the mod too. Mega Man X Starbound is going to get custom enemies and new Techs that add additional Ride Armors and a Biometal ability. I’d love to see more custom furniture added too, since one of my favorite things is making themed worlds within the game, but we’ll have to wait and see if that’s a part of Crystan and Dragonith's plans.
