Sanrio announced a crossover collection ofmerchandise that features its mascots dressed as Chiikawa characters and vice versa. It will debut in Japan on June 13, 2025, though only applicable Sanrio+ who enter a lottery will be able to buy them initially. The company didn’t note of the items will also appear worldwide yet. 

Five Sanrio mascots and five Chiikawa characters are a part of this collection, and in each case the merchandise features all 10 represented. This means that the pairings mean we’ll see examples where Hello Kitty will constantly be dressed as Chiikawa, and likewise Chiikawa will wear a Hello Kitty outfit. Here is the official list of which characters are connected.

• Hachiware and Cinnamoroll
• Momonga and Kuromi
• Usagi and Pompompurin

There are four kinds of plush products in this crossover collection. Some are more traditional stuffed animals, such as the five 3,696円 (~$26) plush toys of the Chiikawa characters in removable costumes. Those can take the Sanrio outfits off. Five mascot keychains of them that don’t include removable clothes are 2,497円 (~$17). Five plush purses of the Chiikawa characters’ heads with hoods are 2,794円 (~$19). 10 hair clips are also plush and feature all 10 mascots from the crossover for 946円 (~$7) each. Also, while not plush toys, there are 10 flocked 990円 (~$7) of each character. 

There are also some bags and stickers in the collection. A set of what looks to be 17 stickers costs 550円 (~$4). There are three bag options, with one being a set of two. The cheapest is a pink eco bag that can be folded into a pouch for 1,496円 (~$10). The pair of two zippered pouches is 1,980円 (~$14). Finally, the A4-size tote bag is 2,497円 (~$17).

This crossover collection will first debut in Japan on June 13, 2025. There’s no word on a US or worldwide release yet. The Chiikawamanga and anime are available in Japan.

A Chiikawa star projector has appeared in Molly crane games in Japan. It’s also available via online crane game, so you don’t even need to set foot outside of the house to try for it. [Thanks, Dengeki Online!]

There is only one variation of the star projector, and there are several machines that contain it. Costs start from 198 MP to play. Machines that have a higher chance of winning will cost more. The Chiikawa star projector has the designs of the characters on the lid, and when they light up, they’ll appear on your walls or ceiling. There are three buttons on the projector, letting you adjust the color and brightness of the light. As well, you can set it to rotate, making it seem like the Chiikawa characters are really in the constellations.

Chiikawa, short for Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu (Something Small and Cute” is a popular manga and anime series. The mascots often appear in merchandise and they’re something of a phenomenon in the same way Molcar was. A Chiikawa mobile game, Chiikawa Pocket, is even in development.

The Chiikawa star projector is available via crane games in Japan. In order to play it online, you must be in Japan.

Uniqlo Japan revealed a new girls' apparel and shirts collection that will combine Sanrio characters with those from Nagano's manga series Chiikawa: Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu. It will start selling these products in early May 2024.

The collection will consist of six half-sleeved UT graphic T-shirts and four Relaco shorts. Each item will combine the likes of Hello Kitty and Cinnamoroll with Chiikawa and Hachiware. The sizes will be available from Kids 100 (shirt width of 15 inches) to Kids 160 (shirt width of 20 inches). All of them will have the same price tag of 990 yen (~$6.57) in Japan.

Uniqlo had previously revealed multiple batches of apparel featuring Sanrio characters. In 2023 alone, the brand featured the franchise three times in March, August, and December. But while crossover merchandise between Sanrio and other anime or game franchises has appeared on other outlets, this will be the first time Uniqlo releases crossover apparel between the former and Chiikawa. The latter manga series has found popularity among Japanese social media s, and its second Spot the Difference puzzle book came out in October 2023.

The Chiikawa x Sanrio Characters Sweets Collection shirts will be available in Uniqlo stores from early May 2024.

A second Chiikawa Spot the Difference puzzle book will be released on October 25, 2023. It will be titled “Chiikawa Wakuwaku Machigai Sagashi,” or “Chiikawa Exciting Spot the Difference.” The book is available to pre-order now on Amazon Japan and Rakuten Books. An English translation or release has not been confirmed, but the puzzles can likely be enjoyed without the need to understand Japanese. It will cost 1,100 yen ($7.40), tax included. The last puzzle book in the series was published two years ago, in 2021. Although some of the puzzles in the release will be quite difficult, the project will feature a range of challenges to appeal to all ages.

This book will include characters such as Chiikawa, Hachiware, and Usagi from the series Chiikawa by the Japanese illustrator Nagano. The manga’s full title is Chiikawa: Nanka Chiisakute Kawaii Yatsu (“Something Small and Cute”).

The “Chiikawa Wakuwaku Machigai Sagashi,” or “Chiikawa Exciting Spot the Difference” puzzle book, will be released on October 25, 2023. It will be priced at 1,100 yen ($7.40), tax included.
